Spring 2020 Cancelled

Fort Lauderdale Little League Baseball and Softball Family,

Opening

--

For over 50 years, Fort Lauderdale Little League has provided Baseball to this great city of ours. Unfortunately, the challenges we face as a community today have created situations that many of us have never had to endure. The COVID pandemic has caused our governments from the Federal to the City level to implement measures to protect their communities - Social Distancing, Stay at Home orders,Business Closures, etc.....

--

I think one of the reasons many of us love Baseball / Softball is because it is a game in which we stand in defiance of the odds. One person standing at home plate facing 9 other players; what other sport will you find such a beautifully unbalanced equation?  It's a game of perseverance, a game of the strongest will, and, of course, a game of humility. Today's environment is somewhat reflective of Baseball; the odds, at times, may feel like they are against us, but if we keep swinging, we will persevere.

--

The challenges Fort Lauderdale Little League is facing left us with too many obstacles to overcome, and believe me, we have tried hard to find a way for us to finish the season we have started. However, after consulting with the city, looking at the guidelines and the possibility of reforming teams, the Board has reluctantly decided to cancel the 2020 spring season.

Our Next Season

--

As you may or may not know, Fort Lauderdale Little League is a non profit organization, unaffiliated with the city. We are a 100% volunteer organization from the board to the coaches.  We have tried hard to keep our prices as low as we can throughout the years, and your registration fees largely go to the upfront costs we incur before anyone steps on the fields. Our upfront costs are Insurance, District Allowances, Field Rentals, Background Checks, Pre Season Coaching Training, Safety Training, Opening Day and the purchase of the uniforms and equipment for every team from T-Ball to Seniors.  We purchase thousands of balls each season, catchers' gear, tees, helmets and so forth. We have 698 players this year so you can imagine our expenses, and it's only due to the generous help of our sponsors that our registration fees are not considerably more.

--

Since we had already started our season (practices / training / games), purchased uniforms, equipment and met those upfront expenses, we are unable to provide refunds, with the exception of our Seniors division which does not usually start until April/May and have not been supplied uniforms or equipment.

--

However, in lieu of refunds, and because much of our equipment was purchased and under utilized in the spring season, we will be offering a substantially discounted fall season to all of those who registered in Spring.

Final

--

Fort Lauderdale Little League Board of Directors wishes all of you the best. We know our coaches and players look forward to getting back on the fields again. Although there are many uncertainties that may affect our timeline of returning to the fields next season - we will be back, we will persevere, and we will not give up until we are all together on the fields again!

--

In the mean time, stay safe, stay healthy, keep swinging, and we will see you soon!
